Ferdinand Ihringer

Short Biography

My hometown is Darmstadt. My father was a mathematician too (sometimes people ask). After attending high school at the Justus-Liebig-Schule (LIO), I studied mathematics at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen from 2006 to 2015, obtaining my Bachelor, Master and PhD degrees there under the supervision of Klaus Metsch. From 2015 till 2023 I held postdoctoral positions at various universities: Giessen (2015 - 2016, no supervisor), Regina (2016 - 2017, Karen Meagher), Jerusalem (2017 - 2018, Gil Kalai), Ghent (2018 - 2023, Leo Storme). Since 2023, I have been an assistant professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen.

Since 2025, I have been on the editorial board of JCTA. I have published in various journals, for instance, Combinatorica, The Proceedings of the AMS, JCTA, JCTB, and IEEE Transactions on Information Theory.

My postdoctoral positions in Regina and Ghent were financed by postdoctoral research grants by PIMS and the FWO (twice), respectively.

Fortunately, I could conduct many long-term research stays; most notably at the University of Western Australia (twice), at Tohoku University, and at the UC San Diego. Special thanks go to the Flemish Research Foundation and Albrecht Beutelspacher.
